The second chapter of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth tells the story of what happens after Cloud, Barrett, Tifa, Aerith, and Red XIII leave the dark, oppressive city of Midgar and set off into Gaia’s massive, open world. The ensuing adventure spans continents, taking our party from the tranquil town of Kalm all the way to the labyrinthe Temple of the Ancients. As such, players should expect to spend quite a lot of time exploring all of what Rebirth has to offer, including its new systems, side quests, and numerous open-world objectives. Read on to find out exactly how long it’ll take you to beat Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
How long is Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?
According to the developers of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, its main story should take an average of 40 hours for most players to complete. However, those of us at GameSpot who have already played the game estimate that number is actually closer to 50 hours–and that’s with forgoing most of the game’s side content. For a balanced playthrough, including the main quest and some, but not all, side content, we found it took about 65 or so hours to reach Rebirth’s end. However, completionists should expect to spend significantly longer in the world of Gaia.
The main campaign takes players to Kalm, Junon, Gongaga, Nibelheim, Costa Del Sol, Cosmo Canyon, Mt. Corel, the Forgotten Capital, and their surrounding regions. In each of these regions, there are several side quests and collectibles ranging from chocobos, towers that will further your exploration of the area, lifestreams, excavation sites, and summon sanctuaries. All together, these features nearly double Rebirth’s playtime.
You read that right: Those looking to complete the entirety of what comes packed in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth may be shocked to hear that they will likely spend 100 or so hours doing so. Certainly, there’s no shortage of optional experiences for players to discover as they explore every nook and cranny of this pseudo-open-world chapter in the trilogy. Whether you’re trying to max out every character and collect every item or simply want to see the story unfold as quickly as possible, there’s tons of adventure awaiting you in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
